Privacy Policy

Version 2.0 – Updated: November 3, 2026

1. Introduction

Rumi (“the app”, “we”) helps you learn German from short videos, lessons, flashcards and stories. This policy explains what data we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. The app needs an internet connection to work.

2. What Data We Collect

Your account To use Rumi, you sign in with Apple, Google or your email address. We receive your email address and a user ID. If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we only receive Apple’s relay address.

Your learning data Saved with your account, so it follows you to any device:

Your onboarding answers Your answers to the first questions (for example why you are learning German and how much time you have) are kept on your phone to personalise your plan.

Feedback you post If you post on the in-app feedback board, your posts, comments and votes are stored and shown to other users with your display name, unless you post anonymously. The app version and platform are saved with each post.

Purchases Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your card details. Our subscription provider, RevenueCat, receives your purchase history and your Rumi user ID so your subscription works on all your devices.

Usage analytics We use Mixpanel to understand how the app is used, for example which screens are viewed and which features are used. These events are not linked to your name or email. They include device information such as the phone model, system version and approximate country.

Microphone (speaking practice) Only during speaking exercises, and only with your permission. Your speech is turned into text by your phone’s speech recognition (Apple on iPhone), which may process the audio on Apple’s servers. We do not record or store your voice.

Notifications Reminders are scheduled on your phone. We do not use push notification tokens.

Videos Videos are played through YouTube’s embedded player. While a video plays, YouTube (Google) may collect data under the Google Privacy Policy.
